The plan for No. 7
Tom’s Thumb is a short par 4 whose green-side hazards make raw distance an incomplete plan. The reviewed map shows the lake on the left and a large bunker complex toward the green. Choose between a fairway placement and a more ambitious line only after assessing both.
Off the tee
The conservative landing area is right of the lake and short of the green-side sand. An aggressive attempt needs a reliable carry and a finish that avoids the bunkers as well as the water. Do not convert the Black scorecard yardage into a carry requirement from the map anchor.
Approach & recovery
For the shorter second shot, check the exact front edge of the green and the bunker between your ball and the target. Favor a full landing area over a narrow opening beside the sand. A safe drive is valuable here because it simplifies this next decision.
On the green
The club describes a two-tier green. Try to reach the flag’s section when the shot allows it, while retaining enough margin from the edges. From the other section, judge the change in elevation before setting putting pace; the cup position remains essential.
Watch for
- Lake left; substantial bunkers short and right of the green.
