The plan for No. 8

This par 3 is dominated by a large sand area on the left and water around the far side of the green. The target is a clear landing zone on the putting surface, not the narrow strip of approach that appears between hazards.

Off the tee

Compare the carry to the front with the room available before the back edge. The left sand area can dominate the view, but a long or right miss also deserves attention because of the water beyond. Select the club for both boundaries.

Approach & recovery

The tee shot provides the green approach. Aim far enough inside the outline to absorb a modest directional miss. If a recovery is needed, check whether the water remains behind your target before choosing a shot with substantial release.

On the green

The green spreads across the far end of the approach rather than extending indefinitely away from you. Use its actual depth for distance control. The terrain preview helps orient broad slopes, while the day’s hole location determines how much of the surface is useful.

Watch for

  • Large sand area left and short; water lies beyond and right of the putting surface.
