The plan for No. 1
The opening par 4 asks for a controlled start between water beside the early part of the hole and a green framed by sand. The fairway broadens beyond the teeing area before narrowing toward the putting surface. Build the hole around finding that central landing space.
Off the tee
Pick a target in the broad fairway and compare your likely finishing distance with the right-side pond and the left fairway bunker. A longer shot is useful only when its normal spread still fits the landing area. The map reference is a location guide, not your selected tee marker.
Approach & recovery
From the fairway, judge the distance to the front of the green as well as the flag. Sand close to the putting surface reduces the value of chasing an edge location. Favor an approach that finishes on the green even when contact is slightly imperfect.
On the green
The mapped putting surface extends back from a narrow approach. Give yourself room for the first putt instead of aiming at its outside edge. Read the actual surface and current hole location when you arrive; aerial shape alone does not establish putting break.
Watch for
- Water lies right of the early hole and left near the green. Fairway and greenside sand narrow the useful misses.
