The plan for No. 18
The closing par 5 brings water into both the driving decision and the final approach. Its fairway wraps around the pond toward the green, making position and layup selection as important as length. Plan the finish before taking on the longest possible second shot.
Off the tee
Target the fairway while keeping the right-side water outside your normal shot pattern. Wind can change how much room that target offers, so reassess it from the marker. A long drive only creates a useful opportunity when it also leaves a clean lie and a realistic next shot.
Approach & recovery
The direct route to the green crosses water. If the carry and landing space do not suit the shot available, select a fairway layup around the pond that leaves a clearer final approach. Do not choose a layup distance without checking the shoreline at its expected finish.
On the green
The club describes a shallow, three-tier green. Favor a controlled landing on the appropriate section when possible, but retain a margin from the water and surrounding sand. The first putt’s pace depends on which tiers lie between the ball and cup.
Watch for
- Water right of the drive and across the green approach; sand around the finishing target.
