Hole 16 at National Golf Links of America is a beautiful par 4 that plays 404 yards from the Pro tees and 381 yards from the Men's tees. The fairway is 78 yards wide, with a slight dogleg right. It has 10 bunkers and 1% greenside bunkers as a percentage of total. As you approach this hole, be aware that local weather conditions can have an impact on your ball flight due to altitude, temperature or wind changes across each season - summer months may see higher temperatures and more wind than winter months.

For longer hitters, it’s possible to reach the green in two shots if you are able to hit over some trees on your drive. For shorter hitters, lay up off the tee shot and aim for a distance of around 217 yards (for our golfer hitting ~217 yards with driver) so you will still have enough club left for your approach shot into the green. A 7 iron should get you close (~140 yards), but take note that there are several deep bunkers surrounding this green so make sure to avoid them!

Club Recommendations

For your tee shot, aim for the left side of the fairway to give yourself more room to work with on your approach. This will also help you avoid any bunkers that may be in play. You should also take into account the wind direction and speed when selecting a club off the tee - if it’s blowing from right-to-left then choose a higher lofted club (like a 3 wood) to keep your ball lower and minimize the effect of wind on your ball flight.

Finally, make sure to factor in local weather conditions as they can have an impact on how far you hit each club due to temperature or altitude changes across each season. Summer months may see higher temperatures and more wind than winter months so adjust accordingly!
