About Sedgefield Country Club
Nestled in the heart of Greensboro, North Carolina, Sedgefield Country Club stands as one of golf's most enduring tournament venues, carrying the distinguished legacy of legendary architect Donald Ross while embracing modern championship standards. This 7,130-yard, par-71 layout has been the longtime host of what is now the Wyndham Championship, making it one of only two Ross-designed courses currently hosting a regular PGA Tour event alongside Detroit Golf Club.
The course underwent a significant $3 million restoration in 2007 that carefully preserved Ross's architectural DNA while updating playing surfaces for contemporary tournament golf. The original bentgrass greens were replaced with Champion Bermuda grass putting surfaces, while Tifway 419 Bermuda grass was installed throughout the fairways. These firm, fast-playing conditions create a premium on precision and course management, as the Bermuda rough proves far more penal than traditional bluegrass, effectively neutralizing the bomb-and-gouge strategy that dominates many modern layouts.
