About Torrey Pines Golf Club (South Course)

Course Story

Torrey Pines South Course, renowned for its challenging layout, gained prominence as the host of the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Open Championships. Originally designed by William Bell, Sr. in 1957, this prestigious course in La Jolla, California, shares its grounds with the Farmers Insurance Open PGA Golf Tournament, alongside the North Course. In 2001 and 2019, Torrey Pines South underwent significant renovations and redesign by Rees Jones, resulting in an enhanced and more demanding golfing experience. The course now spans up to 7,800 yards, featuring extended teeing areas, offering a formidable test for golfers. Against the stunning backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, players also contend with the captivating sight of hang-gliders and para-gliders gracefully navigating the cliffs along the southern edge of the course.
