The everyday scorecard is par 72, with four par 3s and four par 5s. The early holes reach the coastal bluff at 3 and 4, while the ravines shape decisions on 6, 7, 13, 14, 16 and 17. The eighteenth returns to the clubhouse with a pond immediately before the green.
The city identifies kikuyu fairways and poa annua greens. Its published tournament mowing and speed specifications are not a promise of the conditions on an ordinary playing day. The 2019 rehabilitation adjusted selected fairways and bunkers, approaches and tees; these maps use newly checked routing rather than assuming older diagrams remain correct.
Choose tees by the carries and longer approaches you can play repeatedly. A club that clears a hazard only on your best strike gives little margin when the wind changes or the lie is imperfect. The South Course often puts bunkers either side of the approach, which makes a clear central position useful even where the map looks straightforward.
On the par 5s, name the second-shot landing area before choosing the club. At 9, recheck the sand farther up the hole; at 13, preserve a useful view and carry into the green; at 18, decide whether the pond carry is comfortable from the actual lie. Reaching a shorter number is not enough if the next shot becomes harder.
Use the contour panels to identify the green’s sections and the transitions between them. Broad green dimensions can conceal a small usable target at an outside flag. When the approach does not allow precise control, aim at the larger interior and leave the detailed pace and break assessment for the putting surface.

Recheck the wind when the routing changes direction, particularly around the bluff and ravines.
Use the map reference for orientation. Scorecard tee selection changes the yardage label, not the reference coordinate.
Separate a hazard carry from the distance to the flag on 3, 8 and 18.

Read the current surface on site: the contour maps show broad terrain, not today’s flag position, green speed or a guaranteed putt line.
