This par-5 features a blind tee shot that demands precise positioning to avoid the severe drop-off and dunes guarding the lake's edge. The approach unfolds against the stunning backdrop of the Great Lakes, creating both beauty and intimidation.
Off the tee
The blind tee shot is the hole's defining challenge, requiring you to aim well left of your natural target line. Focus on the left side of the fairway to avoid the severe drop-off, sand dunes, and bunkers that guard the approach to Lake Michigan on the right. A driver or 3-wood aimed at the left edge of the fairway provides the safest route, even though it may feel uncomfortable given the hole's rightward bend. The key is trusting your target line despite not being able to see the landing area - this conservative approach keeps you in play and sets up your second shot.
Approach & recovery
Your second shot offers breathtaking views of the Great Lakes as a backdrop, but don't let the scenery distract from the strategic demands. For longer hitters in good position, a long iron or fairway wood can reach the green, but the small target is heavily defended. The safer play is laying up to your preferred wedge distance, staying left of center to avoid the bunkers and falloff toward the lake. If going for the green in two, aim for the left side to avoid the deep bunkers right and the dramatic drop-off to Lake Michigan.

The small, deep green requires precision with your approach and careful attention to pin position. When the flag is positioned near the lake-side edge, err on the side of caution and aim for the center of the green. The putting surface can be tricky to read, so take time to study the subtle breaks.
