The plan for No. 7

The play: The longest hole on the front nine, starting from a high dune ridge. Par 5, men's stroke index 14 (74 591, 70 548, 66 507, 62 489, 54 447 yards).

Shot by shot

  1. Off the tee

The downhill drive must deal with a diagonal carry bunker on the right and a big blow-out bunker on the left. A mapped finish 230 yards from this tee leaves 343 to the center. Right bunker 1 runs 213 to 243 yards from this tee. Laying up on the mapped fairway leaves 168 to 188 yards in.

  2. Approach & recovery

The club: lay up just right of the lone central bunker, where the ground feeds left toward the green. Then aim left of centre: missing right of the green leaves the hardest up-and-down (DP World Tour, 2025).

  3. On the green

The mapped green is about 67 yards deep and 44 yards wide.

  4. Watch for

    • Diagonal carry bunker right
    • Blow-out bunker left
    • Central bunker on the second shot

Research notes

  • The easiest hole for the tour (about 4.50 on average), but the entrance to the green is narrow and it is hard to get up and down when short-sided, especially from the right. (Hole 7)[1]
  • The ground rises before the green and hides the second shot; past the lone central bunker the land falls right to left toward the green. (Hole 7)[2]
  • The fairways are among the widest on tour but missing them is heavily punished, and the very large greens mean more long lag putts than usual when the wind blows. (Keys to performing well)[1]
