Hole 8 gameplan
A risk-reward par 4 with tee flexibility from drivable to conventional. Andrew Green expected a committed drive to create eagle chances. The lake and a carry bunker define the bold route; the right side offers a longer but more conservative path, though post-event analysis found that bailout can become too forgiving for many pin locations.
The primary aggressive line crosses the expanded lake, while an offset right bunker keeps the bailout honest. Decide between a true attack and a deliberate position shot—do not drift into the middle without a clear carry plan.
From a lay-up, favor the angle that exposes the most green between the flanking bunkers and mounds. From near the green, leave the recovery on the side with visible short grass.
The surface was positioned to balance fear of the water with the reward of the bold drive. Use the aerial map and pin position to identify where the green can receive the chosen trajectory.
- The expanded lake occupies the aggressive primary route from the dam-side tees; consult the mapped front and clear edges for the selected tee.
- A carry bunker along the water and an offset bunker right create the tee-shot choice.
- Flanking bunkers and mounds defend the green.

Fried Egg's post-event analysis found the restored eighth's front-right bunkers relatively forgiving to most 2024 pin locations, encouraging a conservative line away from the left-side water; it proposed a front-right pin to sharpen the risk-reward balance.

The restored eighth supports multiple tee distances including a drivable setup; a carry bunker at the water and offset bunker right create the tee-shot decision, while the green balances the hazard against the bold drive.
