The plan for No. 9

The ninth bends around an extensive sandy edge before reaching the green. A drive that leaves the right angle can simplify the approach more than a few extra yards.

Off the tee

The main fairway is broad on the left and bordered by sand on the inside of the turn. Select a finish with room for dispersion; cutting the corner asks for both sufficient carry and a controlled landing.

Approach & recovery

The corridor narrows near the green, with a bunker at the front-right entrance. From the broad portion of fairway, identify how much of the green is open to your shot before choosing a direct flag line.

On the green

The putting surface has an irregular outline and a narrower near end. On a long approach, take the larger landing area rather than demanding an exact stop in the narrow section.

Watch for

  • Long sandy edge along the inside of the turn
  • Front-right bunker near the green entrance
