Hole 8 at Merion Golf Club (East Course) in Ardmore, Pennsylvania 19003 is a par 4 that measures 360 yards from the Pro tee box. The Men's and Women's tees measure 342 yards and 332 yards respectively. This slight dogleg left features a 40 yard wide fairway with 5 bunkers of which 5% are on the green itself. The green area is 6970 square feet in size.

This hole should be approached cautiously as errant shots can end up in one of the five bunkers or even worse, out-of-bounds to the right side of the fairway. A driver off the tee will give you an opportunity to have a short iron approach shot into this slightly elevated green but accuracy is key as anything too far right could find its way into trouble while any ball hit too far left can easily run through the fairway. Depending on your skill level and current weather conditions, it may be wise to lay up with an iron off the tee leaving yourself around 140 - 180 yards for your second shot depending on where you leave yourself after your drive. In windy conditions, club selection becomes even more important here so make sure to factor that in when selecting your clubs for both shots!

Club Recommendations

The green itself is fairly large, so make sure to take note of the pin placement when you get up to the green. It may be wise to land your approach shot short and let it run onto the green rather than trying to hit a high soft shot that could leave you in an awkward spot around this tricky undulating surface. Finally, pay attention to your speed control on all putts as there are several subtle breaks which can easily throw off your line if you don’t read them correctly.
