Hole 7 at Merion Golf Club (East Course) is a 350 yard par 4 from the championship tees. It has a slight dogleg left, so accuracy off the tee is paramount. The fairway width of 36 yards requires an accurate drive to set up your approach shot into the green. There are two greenside bunkers that make up 7% of total area of the green which can be avoided with a well struck tee shot and/or approach. Depending on local weather conditions across each season, altitude, temperature and wind may impact ball flight for both the tee shot and approach shots as they have different distances depending on club selection; driver ~217 yards, 7 iron ~140 yards and pitching wedge ~120 yards respectively. With all these factors in mind, this hole plays as a handicap 12 making it one of the more difficult holes on this course.

Club Recommendations

Playing Tips:

1. Aim your tee shot down the right side of the fairway to avoid the dogleg left and give yourself a better angle into the green.

2. Consider club selection carefully depending on local weather conditions, altitude, temperature, and wind in order to maximize ball flight for both tee shots and approach shots.

3. Avoid hitting too close to either greenside bunker by playing conservatively off the tee if necessary; this will provide more room for error with your approach shot into the green.

4. Use extra caution when selecting clubs as this is a challenging hole due to its length (350 yards) and difficulty rating (handicap 12).
