About Pinehurst Resort #2
No. 2 is the historic championship course at the heart of Pinehurst. Its identity rests on the relationship between fairway position, elevated putting surfaces and the short grass that carries a near miss away from the hole. The 2011 Coore and Crenshaw work restored sandy native ground and wiregrass to the playing corridors. The course has staged the U.S. Open repeatedly, including the men’s and women’s championships in consecutive weeks in 2014. Tournament setups and resort scorecards can have different pars and lengths: use the tee row selected for your round.
Course Strategy & Gameplan
Tactical DNA & Fairway Corridors
Work backward from the green. A drive on grass is valuable because it lets you choose the correct landing area; an approach that holds the putting surface is valuable because it removes a difficult recovery. Give crowned edges a margin, consider a low recovery from a clean lie, and avoid treating every nearby flag as an invitation to attack. On the fifth, even a layup aimed right can move left after landing; plan the resting place as carefully as the start line.
