Hole 1: Par 4, 365 yards (handicap 9)

Welcome to the first hole at PGA National Resort and Spa's 'Champion Course'. This par-4 is a great opening hole that sets the tone for the rest of your round. From the championship tees, this hole measures at a challenging but manageable distance of 365 yards. The slight dogleg right shape requires an accurate tee shot to set up a good approach to the green.

Off the tee, you'll want to aim towards the left side of the fairway as there are three bunkers strategically placed on the right side. These bunkers will come into play for longer hitters off the tee, so it's important to take note of their location when choosing your club.

Speaking of clubs, with an average drive distance of 217 yards, I recommend using either a driver or a hybrid off this tee depending on how comfortable you feel hitting long irons into greens. Keep in mind that weather conditions can greatly affect your ball flight here at PGA National Resort and Spa throughout different seasons. In warmer months with higher temperatures and less wind, you may see some extra carry on your shots while in cooler months with lower temperatures and more wind, expect some roll out after landing.

As we approach our second shot from around 140 yards out (assuming an average iron distance), accuracy becomes even more crucial as water comes into play short and left of the green. The green itself is relatively small compared to others on this course measuring only at around 6264 square feet. However, only about four percent is covered by greenside bunkers making them less likely to be encountered during approach shots.

Overall this first hole offers players a chance for an early birdie or par but don't underestimate its difficulty especially if weather conditions are not favorable.
