Shadowridge Golf Club Hole by Hole - 1st Hole

Welcome to the first hole at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista, California! This par 5 is a great starting hole for any golfer. From the championship tees, it measures 547 yards and has a handicap of 17, making it one of the easier holes on the course. However, don't let that fool you - this hole still requires strategy and precision.

The fairway is relatively wide at 36 yards and curves slightly to the right. This means that your tee shot should be aimed towards the left side of the fairway in order to avoid getting blocked by trees on the right side. Keep in mind that due to its location in Southern California, Shadowridge experiences warm weather year-round with mild winds coming off of nearby mountains.

For an average golfer who hits their driver around 217 yards, I would recommend using a hybrid or long iron off the tee instead. This will give you more control over your shot placement and help avoid any hazards on either side of the fairway.

As you approach your second shot, take note of water surrounding most of this green as well as four bunkers strategically placed around it. Greenside bunkers only make up about 1% of this green's total area but can still cause trouble if not avoided.

Depending on where your drive lands, I would suggest using a mid-iron or even another hybrid for your approach shot since this green is fairly large (measuring approximately 8659 sq ft). If you're able to hit consistent shots with your pitching wedge around 120 yards like our hypothetical golfer here does, then aim for landing just short of these greenside bunkers in order to have an easier chip onto this undulating green.
