First played in 1904, the Canadian Open is one of golf's oldest national championships and is often cited as the third-oldest continuously run tournament on the PGA Tour after The Open Championship and the U.S. Open. Leo Diegel holds the record with four titles (1920s), while Tommy Armour, Sam Snead and Lee Trevino each won three times; the tournament's 72-hole scoring record is Rory McIlroy's 258 (-22), set in 2019 at Hamilton Golf and Country Club. Long associated with Glen Abbey in Oakville (which hosted roughly 30 times through 2018), the event has rotated among Ontario and Quebec venues and moved to TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course) in Caledon, Ontario beginning in 2025. RBC has been the title sponsor since 2008; the 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to COVID-19.
