It has been titled the Hero Indian Open for sponsorship reasons since 2011, and from 2015 it has been co-sanctioned by the European Tour (now the DP World Tour). Multiple Indian golfers have shaped its history, including three-time winner Jyoti Randhawa and back-to-back champion Shiv Chawrasia (2016, 2017); since 2017 the event has been staged at the demanding Gary Player-designed DLF Golf & Country Club, though the tournament was not held from 2020 to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
