The Dubai Desert Classic was founded in 1989 as the Karl Litten Desert Classic, becoming the first European Tour (now DP World Tour) event staged on the Arabian Peninsula, and has been played throughout its history on the Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club. Rory McIlroy holds the record for most titles with four (2009, 2015, 2023, 2024), while the tournament scoring record is Bryson DeChambeau's 264 (-24) set in 2019. The event carried the Omega title sponsorship for much of its modern run before Slync.io (2022) and then Hero MotoCorp took over, giving the current name "Hero Dubai Desert Classic" from 2023.
